It's all about the Punch Bowl

I am convinced that there are a few things every good Southern woman absolutely must have. She of course, must have a love for Jesus...a strand of pearls...a magnolia tree... and a great punch bowl. Believe me, it's true! My quest for that perfect punch bowl began very innocently.  A few years ago, I was exploring a local Flea and Antique shop in search of special treasures and  inspiration .  In fact, that particular day, my mission was to find a chair for a room remodel.  That is when I spotted "It"...the perfect punch bowl! It was on the floor of all places, tucked under a not so great  floral antique chair. It was so beautiful and caught my eye instantly. Isn't it funny how that happens? I was looking for a chair, not a punch bowl ! The truth is, I didn't even know until that very moment, that I even needed a punch bowl:)

Now, this was not just any punch bowl. It was gorgeous...complete with cups and ladle and wonderful under plate which I had never seen before. The price tag was  $400.00 which I knew was much too extravagant  for such a wim. I walked away but couldn't get that punch bowl out of my head. I know..a bit crazy. What can I say? Three weeks later I returned  to the same spot..and of course , my recent obsession was nowhere to be found. This is really when my punch bowl journey began. I soon discovered  that the manufacturer was  the "Heisey" glassware company  (which meant nothing to me at the time) . I searched eBay and was surprised to find one exactly like it! I was thrilled of course , and instantly  became an avid Ebay shopper. I also learned a lot about Heisey glassware and the diamond H mark that makes it even more valuable apparently. All I knew was that I just loved it. So..I placed my first eBay bid. Three days later, it was on its way to me..for $199.00.  I'm not sure if it was the prize , the bargain bid, or the quest itself that made it so fun for me. What I do know, is that it has been the centerpiece for many parties and gatherings ever since and continues to make me smile. No matter how delicious it's contents, we all agree..it's all about the punch bowl!  Yummy recipes coming soon:) Cheryl
